Indie Author Interview
Author name: CLAIRE GOFF
Book title: TRUTH BE TOLD
I’m delighted to share my latest author’s book with you. Claire Goff made her author debut last week with Truth Be Told. And she already has 12 five-star reviews. Needless to say, she’s very happy.
I caught up with her on Cloud Nine to ask a few questions about her self-publishing journey and her plans for writing more books. Here’s what she told me:
Congratulations! Your book, Truth Be Told, is now available on the Amazon bookstore. How did it feel to see it there for the first time?
I can’t deny it. I was nervous.
Every new author feels like that, I promise. Can you tell us why you wanted to write your book?
So many reasons why; firstly I love books, all books. Secondly, I get a major natural buzz from creating fiction, thirdly I read in The Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook 2018/19 that the CEO of Penguin Books declared that there are not enough publishers taking on working-class writers and that we, the future generations and academics of the future, are not going to have true representations of how the working-classes lived!
This is never going to be portrayed via a middle/upper-class writer. This not only made me angry at the lack of equality, but the fact he shouts this and still closes his door to the working-class writer is hypocritical and rather insulting. Therefore I got a fire in my belly and decided to create a working-class fictional novel, for today and for the future. Although the book is considered a crime romance, I tried very hard to touch subtly on social politics and the inequalities within our social group. I also feel I have offered a little education within the novel on topics such as feminism.
I love that fire in your belly! Have you always been a writer / wanted to become an author?
I have wanted to be a successful writer for the last 7 years.
Right, so what made you take that final leap and publish your book?
Frustration and determination to prove the upper-class genteel of our society that us mere lower social working-classes are not stupid! And my desire for change! Ambitious, I know!
Nothing wrong with ambition. It’s inspired you to achieve a dream, so well done. Have you any more book plans in the pipeline?
I started the sequel to Truth Be Told some time ago, and aim for this to be released the same time next year. I have many more books and scripts in me! My brain is bursting.
That’s great news. Have you any advice for other aspiring authors who want to self-publish their books?
Don’t ever give up.
Write about what you are passionate about.
Patience – Rome was not built in a day, therefore it’s here forever and you never know what the future brings. And keep your expectations realistic. Trying is achieving.
Thanks very much, Claire! All the best with your fantastic book!
Thanks, Michelle. I’m truly thankful for your support and your calming patient nature! I seriously would not have achieved this without you and your confidence in me and my work.
About the Book
Thirty-year-old Kate Andrews is council estate born and bred. She’s a single, lonely, sex-deprived mother who lives for her daughter, Sadie.
Kate’s also the street’s Agony Aunt who dreams of her own happy ever after. Fat chance of that, though, when her prince charming is very much taken. So for now she’ll continue to clean toilets, take care of her family, avoid the local drama and keep her nose clean.
But when something terrible happens, Kate’s calm but mundane existence is turned on its head overnight. Her life becomes an overcrowded, drama-infused, chaotic, blood-stained, soap opera and she’s pushed to the brink. Now she has to keep her cards close to her chest, ward off her lifelong bestie’s drink/drug-fuelled lesbian advances and protect her family from the predators who are getting too close for comfort.
Things are turning nasty on the estate and Kate’s dark side – the one no one knew existed – is about to take centre stage.
- Will this tough single mother get revenge for her daughter?
- Will she sacrifice her pathetic princess dream and focus on keeping everyone else happy instead?
- Or will the explosive truth be told?
Find out in this exhilarating, rollercoaster of a read that’s packed with illicit love affairs, criminal antics, humour, danger and single-parent, council-estate banter that will keep you enthralled from start to finish.

Well written with a amazing (different) plot
Love and relate to the characters looking forward to the sequel
It was a real thrill for me to read such an interesting and rather very true day to day life in our society. I throughly enjoyed reading it and would highly recommend it to others as well. Well done Claire!
