Indie Author Spotlight – Mario Panayi

Published early July 2020, this fascinating collection of prose and poetry centres on the lesser-known characters in Greek Mythology. The publication of this book isn’t just an epic achievement for Mario, but it’s also the fifth book I’ve helped Mario bring to life.

About Mario

Mario Panayi was born in the UK but visited his relatives in Cyprus every year during his childhood. It was a very different Cyprus in the 1970s and early 1980s compared to now as Cyprus had been invaded in 1974. The visits he made to Cyprus were very influential on Mario, as he witnessed the aftermath of war such as refugees living in tiny accommodation, running water half a day per week which had to be stored for the whole week, no telephones, and of course, more than 2,000 people had disappeared, presumed dead. This included two of his cousins.

It made Mario very conscious of how fortunate most people are in life, including himself, and how precious life is. He also forged a close relationship with his relatives in Cyprus. Mario found that being told he couldn’t do things just made him more determined to be able to do things. At school a teacher refused to sign off his university application, explaining that there was no point applying to University because he was not capable academically of getting a degree and would probably not be accepted at University. He applied regardless and got two honours degrees, one postgraduate degree and two Masters degrees, including an MBA.

At a previous job he was told by his manager that he could not write. It was at that point he went on to get his final degree which was a BA (HONS) Philosophy and Creative and Professional Writing, but he never studied poetry. Mario has found that walking and writing is cathartic and therapeutic.

To date he has published five books:

  1. Birth, Life, Burial

  2. Myths and Make-Believe

  3. Do You Recognise Yourself?

  4. Animal in YOU?

  5. Glimpses of Epic Greek Myths

all are available in Kindle and paperback from Amazon.

Glimpses of Epic Greek Myths – The Blurb

Rich in characters and ill-fated storylines, Greek Myth tales have survived for thousands of years.

And in this collection, the author draws on ancient dramas and characters to offer a truly fascinating glimpse at pivotal moments in their lives, transformations and deaths. As one would expect in such irresistible Greek tales, there are Gods and Goddesses, a gorgon, cyclopean children, a titan, kings, queens, princes and princesses, a prophetess, sea nymphs, gigantic monsters and warriors. What they get up to and who with will leave a lasting memory and test your moral compass.

Raunchy and dysfunctional relationships … madness … multiple murders … rage and rape … sacrifices … maternal love … suicide … mortals … heroes … villains and immortals.

Epic tales of some of the lesser-known characters from the world of Greek Myth, and those shrouded in mystery, are now brought to life in an irresistibly entertaining and visual manner. Their personalities, motivations, sexual tensions and prowess, their true nature, and their interactions are literally laid bare – in more ways than one.

  • 13 pieces of captivating prose.
  • 10 eloquent, cinematic poems.
  • And 1 nursery rhyme (a precursor to Who Killed Cock Robin?).

These explosive, moving and tragic legendary sagas will introduce you to a new and intoxicating experience.

Prepare to be enthralled and mesmerised as you meet Chaos, Gaea, Ouranos, Pontus, Tmolus, Brontes, Steropes, Argys, Helios, Atlas, Medusa, Poseidon, Galatea, Polyphemus, Amphion and Niobe, Zethus and Thebe, Hermes, Eris, Queen Jocasta, Megara, Achilles, Iphigenia, Creusa, Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. And even Zeus has a cameo role.

However, please open this book at your peril. It is not for the innocent nor the faint of heart. Full of adult themes and scenes, some explicit in nature, Glimpses of Epic Greek Myths will either make you grateful for your relatively calm and predictable life or force you to unlock and unleash your dark side. The choice is yours.
