Amazon Author Interview

Wayne Slater

Into the Wolf’s Mouth

Congratulations! Your book’s available to buy on the Amazon bookstore. How did you feel to see it there for the first time?

Proud and excited, daunted at what is to come!

Can you tell us about your book and why you wanted to write it?

Eighteen months ago, at a loss at having to retire from the stage due to ill health, I needed a creative outlet.

Into the Wolf’s Mouth draws on my experiences as a comedy stage magician of forty years. I transport the reader on a journey from Blackpool to Italy, from childhood to adulthood, as my main character searches for his parents.

Have you always been a writer / wanted to become an author?

No, I always thought I would just be a stage performer.

What made you take that leap and publish your book?

As mentioned, the end of my stage career and lockdown combined to give me the time.

Have you any more books in the pipeline?

I have written a non-fiction book The Art of Stage Craft which covers the trials and tribulations of a performer along with advice on all aspects of performing.

There could easily be a sequel to Into the Wolf’s Mouth – I have already penned the opening chapter.

What advice would you offer other aspiring authors who are thinking of self-publishing?

Talk to Michelle Emerson from the outset!! She has encouraged me to write and given me the confidence to see it through.

Thanks so much, Wayne.

Very best of luck with your excellent novel.

It’s been a real pleasure working with you and seeing all your hard work come to life.

ABOUT THE BOOK

‘The safest place for a wolf pup is inside its mother’s mouth.’

Gee Valentine’s life is the pits.

Abandoned at birth and raised in a care home, he’s learnt how to survive the hard way. When he secretly escapes the care system, fate intervenes, and he’s befriended by the mysterious owner of a Blackpool magic shop who teaches him the art of sleight of hand magic.

Fast-forward a few months and the pair begin to trust each other. For the first time in his 15 years, Gee actually feels part of a family, and he meets the girl of his dreams.

But once again his happiness is snatched away.

After a few violent scrapes with the local Pleasure Beach meatheads, Gee starts getting into trouble. And when he is entangled in the murder of five stage magicians, he flees Blackpool in the dead of night.

He embarks on a journey of self-discovery to Italy in his 1967 VW Campervan. In an emotional search for his parents, he encounters friendship, betrayal, love and death.

  • Is everyone out to destroy him?
  • Is he a pawn in a revengeful game of Whodunnit?
  • Is he destined to always be a lone wolf?

In bocca al lupo… into the Wolf’s mouth.

Magic … illusions … music … murder
