Amazon Author Interview

Jacqui Taylor

The Space Between: Breast Cancer & Finding Me

Congratulations! Your book’s available to buy on the Amazon bookstore. How did you feel to see it there for the first time?

It was a bit surreal to see my picture on the book cover on an Amazon listing. The whole thing started to feel real after all the months building up to this point.

Can you tell us about your book and why you wanted to write it?

The book follows a year of my life, from a lobular breast cancer diagnosis in July 2020 through to a year later when I undertook an anniversary walk in the Lake District. I decided to write the book during my treatment to share my journey and capture what was happening for me. Whilst proving a cathartic process for myself, I hoped that others would find inspiration from the story as I underwent a transformation in my perspective on life.

Have you always been a writer / wanted to become an author?

Not at all! At school I never believed that English was my thing and as I moved more towards maths and sciences, I lost complete touch with anything creative. Only as an adult have I realised my love of reading, languages, history and now writing.

What made you take that leap and publish your book?

It was always the intention to publish the book – right from the very beginning. Once I start on something and set my mind to it I’m pretty good and getting there. There was a point along the way when I felt that I might not be able to turn my pile of words into something that I could release. However, I knew that this was something that mattered to me. I had become the light in the darkness of my cancer treatment and I wanted to see it come to life beyond my screen.

Have you any more books in the pipeline?

I have lots of ideas about what I might like to write about, absolutely. I am giving myself some space to let the ideas circulate around and write for the sake of writing to see what comes up before I commit to another project. I am putting my energy into developing my online program to take what I have learnt through this experience and share it in a form that others can apply to their lives.

What advice would you offer other aspiring authors who are thinking of self-publishing?

Go for it! If you have an idea or a story that you would like to share with the world there is nothing to stop you now. Self publishing has opened up writing and creating to people who would never have thought it possible previously. Take advantage of it.

Thanks so much, Jacqui!

Very best of luck with your book. It’s been a real pleasure working with you and seeing everything come to life.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts (and your remarkable journey) with us!

ABOUT THE BOOK

“For all the cancer rebels who have gone before me or are yet to come. Let us inspire each other to be courageous, to face the challenge head-on and commit to living this life.”

Nobody knows how they’ll react to the words, “I’m afraid you have breast cancer.” And Jacqui Taylor – a healthy, fit, busy mother, wife and thriving physiotherapist business owner – was no exception when she heard those words in July 2020. But two years on, she has reached her next destination and found herself; thanks to our wonderful NHS, her relentless determination and the love of family and friends.

The Space Between: breast cancer & finding me is Jacqui’s heartfelt, emotional and inspirational account of her Grade 2 Invasive Lobular Breast Cancer diagnosis, treatments, epiphanies, battle scars and ultimately, her journey of self-discovery.

Without reservation, Jacqui bravely shares the light and darkness of the intimate rollercoaster that became her life. She reveals how she navigated medical appointments and treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic and how she coped with that added extra layer of isolation when the world suddenly stopped. As well as insights into the emotional and physical obstacles cancer threw her way, Jacqui also provides a glimpse into the mental challenges she faced and how her diagnosis impacted every thread of her life.

Her mission now is to raise awareness of Lobular Breast Cancer, inspire others to be courageous, face the challenge head-on and commit to living their lives.

And while everyone’s breast cancer journey is personal and unique to them, if you’re currently battling cancer or supporting a loved one through this horrendous disease, let The Space Between be a source of inspiration.
